LINDEN – Eda Louise Hodge, 85, of Atlanta died Jan. 31. Mrs. Hodge was born on July 2, 1932. Services were held Feb. 4, at the Linden Church of Christ with Jay Launius and Billy Hunt officiating. GILMER -- Services for Leticia Morton, 41, of Gilmer were held Feb 3 at New Beginnings Church in Gilmer. Burial followed at Mims Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral home in Hughes Springs. Ms. Morton was born Sept. 7, 1976 and died Jan. 27. Morris County is home for my family and I. I was born and raised here, as well as my father, Ricky Byrd, and his family going back to my great grandparents, Grady and Bernice Byrd, who had a farm in Rocky Branch. I graduated from Daingerfield High School in 2007. I have a 5 year old daughter, Avery, who I am raising here in Morris County. I chose to run for Morris County Treasurer because I have the experience and skills needed to perform the duties of Treasurer. I have worked for the County through working for Gwen as Deputy District Clerk for the past 6 years and have always been interested in the County business. When Mrs. Nita Beth Traylor announced she was retiring, I jumped at the opportunity to better serve Morris County and to make a better life for myself and my daughter. I know the duties and responsibilities of Treasurer from my experience of working at the County and hand in hand with the current Treasurer and other County offices.

DAINGERFIELD -- Graveside services for Richard Jewel Williams, 80 of Longview were held January 29, at the Clark Cemetery with Bro. Scott Darby officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Richard was born August 4, 1937 in Daingerfield to Jewel Clark and Ruby A. Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Williams and half brothers Danny and Carl Clark. Richard was a member of South Union Baptist Church and veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by sister Glenda Smith and husband Joel of Longview; brothers Malcolm Williams and wife Linda of Trinity, Royce Williams and wife Gloria of Huntingdon, PA.; several nieces and nephews. DAINGERFIELD -- Services for Geraldine Turner, 92 of Daingerfield were Jan. 31, at Lilley’s Chapel Church of Christ with Kenny Shaver officiating. Burial followed in the Clark Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Geraldine was born on March 7, 1925 in Morris County to Clenton and Winnie Lou Nix and died on Friday, Jan. 26 in Hughes Springs. She was a member of Lilley’s Chapel Church of Christ. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Turner, brothers Waple Dee Nix and Winford Nix, sisters Jean Bonds and Merleen Nix. She is survived by daughter Patty Traxler and husband Mike of Punta Banda, Mexico; son Jimmy Turner of Daingerfield; grandchildren Chris Traylor of Castro Valley, Ca.; Curtis and Monica Traylor of Daingerfield; and 3 great-grandchildren. Daingerfield -- Graveside services for Maurine Pearson, 90, of Longview were held Jan. 25, at the Clark Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Irvin officiating. Maurine was born on April 9, 1927 in Morris County to Carnagie Ray and Gladys Edna Finley and died on Sunday, Jan. 21 in Longview. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Charles “Pot” Pearson. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Marsha and Bill Hoffman of Longview, Marita Biocca of Daingerfield; granddaughter Nicole Smith and husband Barry of El Dorado, Ark.; great-grandchildren Paige Smith and Preston Bugg of El Dorado, Ark.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
