“Rumors” premiered on September 22, 1988 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Simon wrote “I was going through some difficult times...I wanted to work, because work is always a cathartic process for me, and I thought it would be really good just to get into a comedy. This is completely different for me...It’s unlike anything I’ve ever written. It’s my first farce.” In describing the play, he said “The play started with the idea of doing a farce...

DAINGERFIELD – A group of concerned citizens met at the Daingerfield High School auditorium on April 17 to discuss how a new program can bring resources into the community. The meeting included city, county, and school officials, as wells as pastors and community members.

Community Unification and Revitalization Program, known as CURP, is the brainchild of Daingerfield native Charles Roberson. Roberson formed the base team of eight members, including Martha Baker with Ounce of Prevention and Dr. Shannon Cox-Kelley from Northeast Texas Community college. The purpose of the group and program is as it says: revitalize and unify the community. The program will help bring grant money to the area that can be used to improve healthcare and infrastructure in the community to bring residents in Morris County to a better position of autonomy.

Sertuche, Finney sentenced in Morris County

On Monday, April 16, a jury was called to the 76th Judicial District Court in Morris County, and the State appeared by Morris County District Attorney Steve Cowan, having previously announced ready to try Joshua Allen Sertuche, 28, of Omaha, for the offense of Burglary of a Habitation. This offense was enhanced from a Felony of the Second Degree to a Felony of the First Degree because Sertuche committed an act of violence, using a deadly weapon against the homeowner during the commission of the burglary.

Due in no small part to the fact that the Jury appeared, and that the State stood ready to proceed with the trial, Sertuche pled guilty before the Court and was sentenced to 35 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division. The Court also made a finding that a deadly weapon was used during the commission of this offense.

But rangers can only do so much. Being a state entity, there are some things that the park and its employees cannot do, like accept monetary donations or certain events outside of the park. This is where the park needs assistance from its “friends.”
