Daingerfield PD reinstitutes Crime Stopper program

DAINGERFIELD – Cooperation between the public and law enforcement is key factor in lowering crime. In an effort to boost community involvement, the Daingerfield Police Department has reinstituted the local Crime Stoppers program.

On Feb. 8, Daingerfield Police Chief Tracey Climer held a community meeting regarding the revitalization of the program.

Cass County resident convicted of violating protective order

Randal Lee, Criminal District Attorney, released the following information regarding a trial against Jonathan Epps. The case was disposed of in the 5th Judicial District Court, with Bill Miller, as the presiding judge.

On Jan. 31, , after 18 minutes of deliberation a Cass County Jury found Jonathan Earl Epps Jr. guilty of Continuous Violation of a Protective Order. After hearing all the evidence, the jury assessed a $10,000 fine and 55 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division on Feb. 1.

Cobbins arrested after three months on the run

MORRIS COUNTY – An area resident who ran prior to being sentenced for theft convictions has been found and taken into custody.

According to a statement from District Attorney Steve Cowan’s office, Joyce Cobbins was arrested just three months after she failed to return to court for sentencing on felony theft charges. A statement from Cowan’s office follows.

Lady Tigers in fight for playoff spot

HUGHES SPRINGS – The Daingerfield lady Tigers traveled to Hughes Springs on Jan. 30 in a key District 14-3A matchup with the Lady Mustangs. The Lady mustangs came out on top, 39-34, which placed both teams in a four way tie for the final two playoff spots. Though held scoreless in the first frame by the Mustang defense, Daingerfield scored 14 in the second to pull ahead by one at halftime, 14-13. The Lady Tigers held Hughes Springs to single digits in the first three quarters before the Lady Mustangs erupted for 20 in the final frame. Daingerfield put up 10 points in each of the third and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Tigers fell by five, 39-34

Local student sings at PRCA event

MCALESTER, Okla. – A local student recently performed the National Anthem at Big V Feeds PRCA Rodeo in McAlester, Okla. on Feb. 2 and 3. Willow Duncan represented Mount

Pleasant and her former hometown of Talihina, Okla. at the event. Duncan, a sophomore at Chapel Hill (Mount Pleasant) ISD, is involved in FFA, theatre arts, culinary arts, and is an honor student. Duncan is the daughter of John and Leslie Brosnan of Mount Pleasant, and Ronald and Lisa Duncan of Kiamichi,

Okla. She is the granddaughter of the late Sam and Rhonda Grubbs and the late Harold Merryman.
