DAINGERFIELD -- Services for Lela Faye Payne, 82 of Lone Star were August 27 at the Nail-Haggard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rick Monds officiating. Burial followed in the Weaver Cemetery. Faye was born on June 21, 1935 in Hopkins County to Hick V. and Marguerite Armstrong Wall and died on Friday, Aug. 25 in Daingerfield. She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church, Wildflower Promenades and a homemaker. Faye was preceded in death by her parents and husband Coy Payne. She was survived by daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Mike Byrd of Daingerfield; sons and daughters-in-law Jimmy and Pawnee Payne of Texarkana, Jerry and Melissa Payne of Hawkins and James and Kelly Payne of Daingerfield, nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. SHELTON

SHELTON HUGHES SPRINGS -- Betty Jean Shelton passed away Aug. 24 in her home surrounded by the people she loved. She was born on April 3, 1933, in Hughes Springs to George and Grace Rowe. She attended school in Hughes Springs and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. During her senior year she was a cheerleader, Senior favorite, and Best All Around. After graduating high school in 1950 she worked at Lone Star Steel. In 1952, she married the love of her life, W.C. (Dub) Shelton. They had one son, Rick, and twin girls, Nan and Jan. From 1983 to 1992, she worked doing various jobs for The Bee newspaper. She loved playing the piano, sewing, decorating her house on Hickory Street, and listening to country music. She especially loved her four grandchildren, Rodney, Ricky, Shelby, and Trent. After retiring from The Bee, she took care of her younger two grandchildren for 14 years.

James Thomas Connor

James Thomas Connor, Jr. was born June 9, 1940 in Dallas. He passed away at the age of 77 on Aug. 5 in Tyler. Jim or Jimmy, as his friends call him, was a life-long resident of Daingerfield. He attended Northwestern State University for two years, before being drafted by the Army. He served in the U.S. Army for 13 years as a helicopter pilot, and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and loved fishing, hunting and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Connor, Sr. and Bessie Faye Abernathy Connor, and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Pat Connor of Daingerfield; four children: James T.
