Services for Bryce Elvin Carter, 68, of Linden, were held Sept. 15 at the First Baptist Church of Linden.  Merle Lee Moreland’s earthly journey ended suddenly on September 10, 2016, at East Texas Medical Center. He is now on to his heavenly mansion that has been prepared for him.

Merle’s pursuit of life-long learning started on December 10, 1935, when he was born to Carl and Helen Moreland of Deerfield, Kansas.

After graduating from Deerfield High School, Merle joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA. During his stay at Fort Belvoir he met and married the love of his life, Brenda Kay Owens Moreland. Their married union lasted for 56 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

After serving his country, Merle worked in Kansas and Oklahoma for the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Co. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a master’s degree in theology and history.

 Funeral services for Thomas N. Lee, Jr. 88, of Texarkana, Texas, formerly of Daingerfield, were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at South Union Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Clark Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

Thomas was born on Nov. 13, 1927 to Thomas Nugent and Emma Loys Hughes Lee and died Sept. 11, 2016 in Texarkana.

He was retired from Lone Star Steel after 35 years of service, was a member of South Union Baptist Church and a Veteran of the U S Army serving during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anita, grandson Joshua Andrew Lee; brothers Jimmy Wayne Lee, John Troyce Lee, Clifford Lee, and Leahmon Lavoia Lee; and sisters Sarah Knesek and Frances Schleabach.

 Mary Charlene Huddleston Irwin was born Mar. 3, 1945 to Archie and Gertrue Cockrum Huddleston in Lindale, TX. She passed away Sept. 12 in Lone Star, TX. She graduated from W.W. Samuell High School (Dallas) in 1963 with classmate Leon Irwin whom she later married. She was a successful businesswoman with Estee Lauder and later with Ebby Halliday where she was a realtor, broker, and branch manager. Her employers valued her dedication and strong work ethic.

Clifford JW Zimmerman, 54, of Daingerfield, died on Aug. 31. He was born on Nov. 20, 1961 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Joseph Zimmerman and his brother Bradley Zimmerman.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his son Clint Zimmerman of Keithville, Ind.; mother and step-dad Lynn and Johnnie M. Renfroe of Daingerfield; sister Lisa Wulff of Evansville, Ind.; brothers Dwaine Zimmerman and Dwight Zimmerman of Evansville, Ind.; brother-inlaw Rickie Wulff of Evansville, Ind.; niece Kayla Wulff of Evansville, Ind; and nephew Reginald Wulff of Evansville, Ind.

Services for Mrs. Curly Simmons Criss Jimmerson, 103, of Cason, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Rock Island AME Church in Avinger. Burial followed at Mount Pilgrim cemetery under the direction of Reeder- Davis Funeral Home. Mrs. Jimmerson was born June 3, 1913, and died on Aug. 23.

 H.L. Foster, Jr., 99, of Linden died Sunday, Aug. 21. Mr. Foster was born Dec. 30, 1916 in Hughes Springs. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Linden Cemetery.
