Dear Editor:

Well it’s been a very interesting several months for the Obama administration. The Benghazi scandal has spiraled out of control. The lies just keep coming, and now they don’t even remember which story they told last. Four Americans died at the hands of terrorists, and we were told to believe this was caused by a video.

Dear editor:
If someone is going to take care of you from the cradle to the grave, you must play by their rules. It’s like children you are raising, they have to follow your rules.  If society is going to pay the cost of your medical expenses and provide you with welfare checks, unemployment checks or job security the new class of guardians will set the standards by which you live. This may be described as a fair and equitable system by some.

It is time to get to the polls and vote on your favorite candidate for local school boards and city council positions. This isn’t just a duty; it is a very important privilege.  
May 11 is Election Day.

Some people are just fortunate in life to be blessed with so much of God’s handiwork. As if there isn’t enough to see living on Lone Star Lake, Jim and Kim Sly have made it a mission to rescue God’s creatures, get them well enough to live on their own, and release them back into their native environment.
The bird they had a few years ago that Jim found in a storm drain was remarkable.  He healed, was well cared for, and able to return to the wild. They had a rescued goose that lived with them for awhile.

It was less than two years ago that I wrote a column about Ralph Kimberley and told about he and others holding court at Café’ Octane and discussing the problems of the city, school, and of the world in general. It was with much sadness that I learned of Ralph’s passing last Friday morning. I immediately thought back to the many times I had seen Ralph in the community and discussions that I had with him about various subjects.
Ralph loved to talk; well, in saying that, he loved to debate things. He loved to challenge people. I do believe he challenged me not only to write better stories, but to be a better person. He would make a person think about the impact they had on their community.

Dear Editor:
The preamble of The American Legion’s constitution is a literary and ideological classic. It sparkles with the purest gems of patriotic thought. It reflects all the spiritual glory of Divine precepts. It is remarkable for the simple brevity into which has been compacted an inspiring pattern for all the future of a free and decent way of life. It has impact as a tenet of faith in God. Each of the 10 clauses of the Preamble, though brief, has a world of meaning.
For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes. This is the introduction. It declares that The American Legion recognizes the influence of Almighty God in all worthwhile endeavors and declares the allegiance of American Legionnaires to both God and Nation.
