The Buzz Do we need this reservior?

Marvin Nichols Reservoir is again on the table as a possibility for water for the large cities to the west of this area. Marvin Nichols would take up a massive section of mostly Red River County, coming close to Titus and Morris counties also. The water planning people are asking for the public’s input, and if you read the front page article in last week’s Steel Country Bee you learned more about the latest developments.
Region C, which represents the greater Dallas area, is looking toward Northeast Texas as a viable source of water. Region D is not consenting.  I remember a few years back there were many meetings of the water planning people of Region D where resident after resident and business people would speak at public forum and ask that the Marvin Nichols Reservoir be dropped from any plan.

The Buzz Maybe it is time to throw in the towel

Many of you that supported us through the many years of our fish fry at the park will not see your local Hughes Springs Lions Club this year during Wildflower Trails.
The cost has gone up and the Lions Club cannot offer it to the public and make any money from the fund-raiser we have been holding yearly for many, many years.
We are still meeting weekly most of the time and a recent plea to others to join our club so we can continue to do the work that we do, has for the most part, went unheeded with the exception of one gentleman that has joined us and has become a really faithful member. All of us really appreciate his time and effort.

Volunteers wanted and needed

Many counties have positions open and people signed up for a March 4 primary election this year. Positions for trustees on school boards, some city mayors, and several city council seats will also be open. Prepare yourself to keep informed as the ads appear and the signs fly up along the roadways and in lawns.
