Outstanding Musician Award

Kristen Meade, band student at Hughes Springs Independent School District, received the Outstanding Musician Award from Corey Graves, director of the Eighth Grade Stone Fort Band at the 2014 Stephen F. Austin State University Band Camp in Nacogdoches. Awards were presented at the conclusion of the June camp.

Jenny’s Hope is open for business in Hughes Springs

Striving to serve others with not only physical food, but gospel food, Jenny’s Hope on First Street in Hughes Springs was opened a few weeks ago, according to Daniel Bramlett, pastor of the First Baptist Church.
“We have opened Jenny’s Hope several weeks ago and have served several people so far,” Pastor Bramlett said. “We are offering counseling services and a worship service to anyone that comes in for aid. We are also offering rental assistance, utility assistance and 31-pound sacks of food to anyone in need. We have a thrift store so folks can pick out clothes. The store also has kitchen items.

Marijuana plants were seized by police at a Daingerfield residence

After a visit to a residence on June 18, where Morris County deputies located 10 marijuana plants, an arrest was made, according to Morris County Sheriff Jack  Martin.
“Morris County Sheriff’s Deputy Will Henderson received information of narcoticsactivity on Franklin Street in Daingerfield,”Sheriff Martin said. “Deputy Henderson, assisted by Deputy Hershel Stroman, went to the location son located and seized 10 potted marijuana plants for evidence.
“Mr. Woodson was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana over 4 ounces, less than 5 pounds.”
The charge is a state jail felony and is punishable by up to two years confinement in a Texas State Jail facility and a fine of up to $10,000.

Baxter charged with three counts of child endangerment

On June 22 Deputy Ken Thomas was dispatched to a disturbance in the area of County Road 3112, according to Morris County Sheriff Jack Martin.
“Deputy Thomas arrived on County Road 3112, brought the scene to order, and began to  investigate to determine what had happened,” Sheriff Martin said. During Deputy Thomas’ investigation, he  determined that Holly Ann Baxter, 29, of Daingerfield, intentionally and repeatedly rammed the vehicle ofanother person, while children were present in both her vehicle and the vehicle of her intended victim. “After Deputy Thomas conducted his investigation, he placed Ms. Baxter under arrest for three counts of endangering a child, which is a state jail felony.”

Driver taken to jail after drugs were found in vehicle

Jacqueline Jones, 55, of Daingerfield, was arrested June 13 and charged  with possession of acontrolled substance, according to Morris County Sheriff Jack Martin. “Deputy Hershel Stroman observed a suspiciousvehicle operating without headlights at night on June 13 and conducted a traffic stop,” Sheriff Martin said.
“Deput Stroman identified the driver of the vehicleas Ms. Jones. During the traffic stop, Deputy Stroman found Ms. Jones to be in possession of crack cocaine and placed her underarrest for possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group One, less than One Gram, which is a state jail felony.”

Bringing it down

Holiday at the park

The Patterson family from Fort Worth spent the July 4 holiday weekend at the Daingerfield State Park. Lake, Smith, Judah and Thomas are the children of Kimi and Rob Patterson. The family said this is the second time they have camped out at the park.

 Addilyn Kate is excited to announce the birth of her little sister, Rylee Rae Satterfield. Rylee was born on June 14 at 1 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Proud parents are Jacie and Cody Satterfield of Daingerfield.
