Puppet Fun

Dru Woods from Holly Lake entertained 75 children and 30 adults at the Hughes Springs Area Library on July 10. The puppet program was sponsored by the Texas Commission of the Arts.

Storm Damage

This tree on Highway 11 on the east side of Cason fell during the storm on July 23. Thunder, lightning, rain and high winds tore through the area in the early evening hours leaving several in the area without electricity.

Construction moves along at the Northeast Texas Community College University and Health Science Center, Criminal Justice Center, Industrial Technology building and the
Hanson-Sewell Center. Daingerfield Public Works employees James DuBois and Jonathan Newberry work to replace a 2-inch valve water break at the corner of Peters and McReynolds streets.
M.L. and Emma Martin of Daingerfield celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

State Qualifiers

Hughes Springs FFA members Colton Tigert, Kendal Sands, Kera Huggins, Kayloni Carrol, Blake Walker and JC Pope competed at the State Wildlife Contest in Sinton, on May 13. To qualify, they placed second in the Marion/Cass Soil and Water Conservation District Contest, where Walker was high point individual, and fourth at the Regional Contest in Nacogdoches in November.

Metal signs showcase Hughes Springs FFA’s artistic talents

In the spring, Hughes Springs Alumni RJ Epps was talking to Hughes Springs ag teacher John Russell about the opportunity that he had to do some community service for a bike race for Wounded Warriors. The race was to take place at Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas, owned by former President George W. Bush.
