Day and evening firearm training offered at college

The Northeast Police Academy at Northeast Texas Community College will offer both day and evening academy options this fall. Both programs will be held in the state-of-the-art criminal justice facility on the main NTCC campus. 
The 17-week daytime fast-track academy will begin on Aug. 25. Courses meet from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This intensive program is the fastest route to becoming a certified peace officer.

Scholarship Gift

Tonya Taylor, assistant professor of nursing at Northeast Texas Community College, gave $1,200 to the NTCC Foundation to provide two scholarships for nursing students. The gift was given in memory of Margie Bragg, an NTCC nursing graduate from Mount Pleasant who worked in the field for many years. Commissioner Visit

Hope Andrade, Commissioner Representing Employers for the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), visits the Industrial Technology Training Center in Mount Pleasant. During her visit, she praised the flexible, self-paced Industrial Technology Program, which allows students to work around their schedules. She is pictured with, from left Dr. Kevin Rose, Northeast Texas Community College Associate Vice President of Workforce Development, Charles Smith, executive director of the Mount Pleasant Economic Development Corporation, and Judd Marshall, superintendent of Mount Pleasant Independent School District. The three organizations partnered to develop the ITTC, which opened in 2011.

Dutch Oven Group gets cooking at the Daingerfield State Park

 If you are interested in outdoor cooking, join the Little Pine Dutch Oven Group D.O.G.S meeting at the Daingerfield State Park. The meetings will be held the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at the pavilion in the park. The first one will be held on Aug. 2. Ranger Onlie Mcgee said beginners and cooking experts alike are welcome.

Finishing touches nearly completed in construction/renovation at school district

Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District Superintendent Sandra Quarles reported on the construction under a $5.4 million bond for the district as it nears completion. The construction is covered under a $5.4 million bond, a Qualified School Construction Bond that voters approved at the polls.

Pearson arrested for harassment and solicitation of prostitution

Longview police arrested a Daingerfield man July 22 on charges of harassment and solicitation of prostitution. 
Joseph Eugene Pearson, 34, of Daingerfield, was arrested after a victim claimed that Mr. Pearson had been harassing him since April of 2013

Traffic stop leads to arrests

A driver and his passenger were both arrested and taken to Morris County Jail after a local traffic stop, according to Daingerfield Police Chief Tracey Climer.
“On July 20, at 1:30 a.m. Daingerfield Police Officer Brandon Fulcher conducted a traffic stop when he observed a vehicle was speeding,” Chief Climer.

Area foundation lends a helping hand; back-to-school donations needed

It will soon be the start of a new school year, and parents are busy planning to get supplies and clothes for their children. The Hughes Springs Area Foundation will hold its seventh annual back-to-school clothing resale on Aug. 16 and 17. The sale will be held in the museum area of the public library from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
