Daughters of 1812 chapter is established in Linden

The fulfillment of a dream to have a chapter of United States Daughters of 1812 in the Bowie and Cass Counties area was fulfilled on Aug. 3, when 16 charter members were welcomed into Mark Epperson Chapter #460, Texas Society, United States Daughters of 1812.

Sprucing up

When school is out for the summer, maintenance workers and teachers are busy. This is the new look to a hallway that students at West Elementary School in Daingerfield will see on their return to school from summer vacation.

New streets

Nichols Street in Daingerfield just north of the railroad tracks is in the process of getting repaved. The Daingerfield City Council selects areas of town that are in need of new asphalt and work has been progressing this year on additional streets. The project was started a year ago.

Area foundation lends a helping hand; back-to-school donations needed

It will soon be the start of a new school year, and parents are busy planning to get supplies and clothes for their children. The Hughes Springs Area Foundation will hold its seventh annual back-to-school clothing resale on Aug. 16 and 17. The sale will be held in the museum area of the public library from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Eighty Rocks

Joe Skipper of Daingerfield was honored with a party last Saturday to celebrate his 80th birthday. The former Morris County Sheriff was honored by family and friends with a party held at the First Baptist Church in Daingerfield.
