National dove hunter survey findings released

About 250,000 mourning dove hunters harvest 5 million mourning doves on an annual basis in Texas – making the Lone Star State the nation’s leader in both the number of hunters and harvest. The findings of a National Dove Hunter Survey will help managers better understand the opinions of this important hunting community at a national level.

Truck catches fire after driver parks and goes in trucking company office

Jenkins Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by Daingerfield Volunteer Fire Department, put out an 18-wheeler fire at Blackwell Trucking at 125 County Road 2202 south of Daingerfield. The fire occurred on July 31.

Fun in the Foam

Hughes Springs Fire Fighter Cindy Taylor sprayed foam for the children visiting the Hughes Springs Area Library last week. Fire Chief Jay Cates and other volunteers entertained the children inside the library teaching them about fires before taking them outside to play in the foam and check out the fire trucks.

Area foundation lends a helping hand; back-to-school donations needed

It will soon be the start of a new school year, and parents are busy planning to get supplies and clothes for their children. The Hughes Springs Area Foundation will hold its seventh annual back-to-school clothing resale on Aug. 16 and 17. The sale will be held in the museum area of the public library from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
