Brandon Scheu is awarded a $12,000 scholarship at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. 
Leif Lowrimore announced his resignation as mayor of Avinger. 
Teenagers from the Daingerfield Church of Christ traveled to Brazil and helped students there with Vacation Bible School.
 
20 YEARS AGO 
Judy Wilson and son, Brian, grow 14-foot-tall Beefsteak tomato plans at their home in Daingerfield.

Ground water storage tank in Daingerfield nears completion

An update on the construction of the ground storage tank in Daingerfield was given to the board of directors of the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District at its July 28 meeting. Joncie Young of KSA Engineers talked about the 750,000-gallon concrete ground storage tank.

TxDOT introduces “Please Be Seated” Hotline

Each year more children are killed or injured in vehicle crashes than by any disease. Most of these casualties can be prevented by having children properly secured in the latest safety seats when riding in vehicles. This is why the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is introducing the “Please Be Seated” hotline 903-799-1400 for citizens to call when they see a child riding unrestrained in a vehicle.

Help available to get licensed to work in Texas

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) recently updated its licensing procedures to help military service members and veterans become licensed to work in Texas using their military service, training, and education. The procedure also helps military spouses become licensed to work in Texas if they hold an equivalent license issued in or by another state. These changes were authorized by bills enacted in 2013 by the 83rd Texas Legislature.

Texas’ Organ, Tissue Donor Program approaches five million registrants

In 2013 the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recorded more than 1.6 million Texas registrants to the Glenda P. Dawson Donate Life Texas Registry, boosting the total registry to nearly five million individuals. The registry is thestate database of individuals who have officially indicated their decisions to donate organs and tissue to benefit thousands of people currently awaiting transplants.
