FISCHER

Born in Langeloth, PA. on April 10 1928, the eighth of nine children and the last surviving sibling born to Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Grace Walker Fischer, John Richard Fischer served two tours of service in the United States Army before settling to live in the Western Pennsylvania area consisting of Cherry Valley, Hickory and Southview. John and his family, with the exception of his daughter, eventually relocated to East Texas in the early 1980s, where they have resided since.

John died Nov. 14, while surrounded by his family at his home in Lone Star. At the age of 88, John still had enjoyed working in his yard when he was not running errands or relaxing on his front porch swing. He and his wife Verdie often spent Saturdays shopping garage sales, and evenings simply sitting together watching TV, holding hands , and enjoying each other’s company.

MABERRY

Services for Marvin H. Maberry, Jr., 78 of Daingerfield were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at First United Methodist Church with Bro. Dan Gilliam officiating. Burial followed in the Daingerfield Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

Marvin was born on Feb. 12, 1938 in Corsicana and died on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Daingerfield.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety where he worked 25 years. He created Maberry Centre Bat Homes in 1989.

Marvin is survived by his wife Diane Maberry of Daingerfield; daughters Marla Bullard of Daingerfield, Angela Hill; son Marvin H. Maberry III; step daughter Lisa Van Reenen and husband Breda; grandchildren Jamie Strawn, Marissa Ayers, Carter Ayers, Aaron Schaar, Allison Schaar, Anna Schaar and Ashlee Achaar; great grandchildren Hannah and Hollye; step grandchildren Gavin Van Reenen and Kelby Van Reenen.

McKAY

Services for Marie T. McKay, 89 of Daingerfield were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Frances O’Dowd officiating. Burial was in Our Lady Of The Pines Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail- Haggard Funeral home.

Marie was born on March 12, 1927 in Ravanna, Ohio to William and Mary Carney. She died on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Sulphur Springs.

Marie was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert McKay, grandsons Brad McKay and Josef Hausler.

Survived by her son Bobby McKay; daughters and son-in-law Jodee McKay, Bonnie and Eddie Hausler; grandchildren Donald Patrick and wife Carrie, Eydie Hausler, Jeff Patrick, Marc Patrick, Autumn Graham and husband Brandon, Heather Bowers; great grandchildren McKay Patrick, Emmi Patrick, Preston Patrick, Branden Graham, Pierce McKay and Logen Graham.

HOLLAND

 Billy Paul Holland, 67, of Tool passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 7. Bill was born and raised in Daingerfield. He attended Sam Houston State University where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree. He recently retired from his job at Terrell State Hospital after 15 years of service. Bill was a kind hearted, caring man and any person that met him came to know this very quickly.

A Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Spring Hill Cemetery. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Pauline Holland and his soulmate Virgil Lee Bentley.

He is survived by his niece Dee Ann Russell and her husband Cary; partner Gary Doyle and his mother Thelma; sister in law Phyllis Tauber; nephews Cecil & Tim Bentley; great nieces Heather & Amber Russell; lifelong friend Layne Zimmer.

MARTIN

Services for Annie Lucille Martin 83 of Daingerfield, formally of Mesquite, were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Nail-Haggard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Shelton officiating. Burial followed in the Daingerfield Cemetery.

Annie was born on July 30, 1933 in Daingerfield to James Edgar and Emma Fay Martin, and died on Sunday, Nov. 6.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Goodbar Recreation Center in Mesquite and was a retired supervisor for Continental Insurance Company in Mesquite, where she worked from 1952 till 1990. Annie received volunteer of the year award in 2005 and 2011, was awarded The Presidents Volunteer Service Award in 2014 by the Mayor of Mesquite and was a resident of Christian Care Senior Living Community also in Mesquite.

AUSTIN

Orvis Enola Bonner Austin of Austin, Texas, passed into our Heavenly Father’s arms at her home on November 5, 2016, after a brief illness. She was surrounded and embraced in prayer by her loving family as she peacefully slipped the bonds of this life.

Orvis was born on July 17, 1926, in the rural Cass County community of Gethsemane near Naples, Texas, to Leroy Clarence Bonner and Julia Coleen Black Bonner. Orvis’ father was a school principal and her mother was a mathematics teacher. Leroy and Julia would go away for the summers to further their education at Prairie View College. Sometimes Orvis would go with them and attend nursery school at the college. Other times, her parents would leave their daughter to play with her cousins, ride mules and learn farm chores with her maternal grandparents, Benjamin J. Black & Della Byrd Black and her paternal grandparents, Rev. Walter Champ Bonner & Alberta Ferguson Bonner.

CURREY

Services for Alvie Currey, 86, of Hughes Springs, were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Reeder- Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs. Burial followed at Center Grove Cemetery in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Mr. Currey was born Nov. 17, 1929 to the parentage of A.D. Currey, Sr. and Sallie Gerbish Currey in the Center Point Community of Cass County. He attended school in Hughes Springs.

Alvie served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After his service, he attended Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology. He loved to fly. Mr. Currey worked in the aerospace industry most of his life and had a hand in most everything that has been in space.

Alvie was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter Gloria Diane Currey.

Services for Kathryn Callaway, were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial followed at Hughes Springs cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Kathryn Willeford Callaway of Hughes Springs went to be with our heavenly Father on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kathryn was born in Hughes Springs on Nov. 10, 1920 to Mary Jon and Morris Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Callaway; parents; one daughter, Gale Avon Wesberry; grandsons, Mark Avon Wesberry and Mike Wesberry; granddaughter, Marcey Gale Wesberry Robertson of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Betty Delia; and brother, Morris Parker.
