JENKINS

Graveside services for Ermentru Pratt Jenkins, 105 of Avinger, will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 10 at
Hughes Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. Mrs. Jenkins was
born October 31, 1910 in the Rocky Branch community and passed away November 7. She graduated from East
Texas State Teachers College and taught third grade for 38 years. Mrs. Jenkins was married to Mr. Vance Jenkins for
63 years prior to his death in 2000.
Mrs. Jenkins was honored with a Golden Globe Award from the Retired Teachers Association, the Citizenship
Award, presented by the Chamber of Commerce, the Parents Teacher Appreciation Award, and the Delta Kappa
Gamma International Society Certificate. She was Chairman of the Board of the First United Methodist
Church in Hughes Springs, organized Bible School for many years, was a volunteer at the Christian Service

LASTER

Dude Laster, 86, of Shreveport, LA passed away Saturday, November 7, at his home in Shreveport. Mr. Laster was born January 28, 1929 in Starks, Louisiana. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Reeder- Davis Funeral Home in Linden.

Services for Reverend Alton Sasser, 87, of Naples were
held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29 at Wallick
Chapel. Burial followed at Pine Bluff cemetery under the
direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes
Springs. Rev. Sasser was born November 25, 1927 and
passed away October 21.

HILL

Amanda Green Hill, lovingly known as “Big Mama” to
family and friends, was born September 5. In the late
evening of October 18, Amanda departed this life.
Services for Ms. Hill were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday,
October 24, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial followed at Morning Star Cemetery under the
direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes
Springs.

PRATT

Graveside services for Betty Jo Freeman Pratt, 87 of Daingerfield held held at noon on Saturday, October 24, at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Rocky Branch with Bro. Chris Bedard officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Betty was born on March 19, 1928 in Iron Bluff to Joe and Susan Abigail Freeman and died on Monday, October 19 in Longview. She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked for Dr. Rutledge and Hospital In The Pines as a medical secretary. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Jerry Pratt. Survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Brenda and Jimmy Bedard of Gilmer, Jan and Kelly Olive of Rocky Branch; son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Anna Pratt, Jr.

HINES

Services for Royce Hines, 80, of Hughes Springs were
held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, at Veal Switch
Baptist Church. Burial followed at Veal Switch Cemetery
under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in
Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6
until 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hines; four children
and their spouses and significant others, Wayne Hines,
Naomi Barger, Amanda Phillips, and Royce Palmer
Hines, Jr.; grandchildren, James “Lil Jack” Phillips and
Lucian Phillips.
Royce was born on May 12, 1935, and survived many
things in his long life. He could recall riding in a wagon.
He saw man’s most destructive force first hand. He was
awestruck to see man walk on the moon and watch technology
change. He retired twice in his life time. Once by
giving 20 years of service to his country in the U.S. Navy

WARD

George W. (Bill) Ward, 94, of Greenville, formerly of
Daingerfield, died Monday, October 19, at Briarcliff
Health Center in Greenville. Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, at Wesley United
Methodist Church under the direction of Coker-
Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Wisdom officiating.
Interment followed at Miller Grove Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Mr. Ward was born in Arbala, Texas on February 18,
1921. He was the son of James Velmer Ward and Gertie
Louell Wattenbager Ward. He married Norma Lee
Johnson on June 25, 1955 in DePort, Texas. He retired
from Lone Star Steel after 33 years. He was a member of
Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife, Norma lee Ward of
Greenville; son, Jeff Ward and wife, Vicki of Greenville;
