Dear Democrats I have a question, what will it take?

A Patriot's Opinion

By Jim Snyder

And by that I mean, exactly what would a candidate have to do wrong for you to not support them? And especially when it comes to criminal activity. The bar must be pretty high because let’s face it you folks will tolerate some pretty bad behavior. Donald Trump made a joke about saying even if he killed someone in New York his supporters would still vote for him and everyone went nuts. But I actually think a democrat candidate could theoretically be accused and charged with killing someone and no one would think twice about supporting them. So let’s look at a few examples of bad behavior being tolerated.

Boomer Musings: The “other” Golden Rule

By: J. Leslie Riseden

Special Contributor to The Steel Country Bee

When I was a "tween", my friends and I stayed outdoors as much as we could in the summertime. Along with a typical group of kids my age, we flew as far and as wide as we dared to go on our bikes. We explored construction sites, lost money at traveling carnivals and -- when we wanted to cool off -- strolled the aisles at Woolworth's or thumbed through comic books at Rexall drug store. We counted the cars of passing trains, inspected the occasional dead animal, and drank water from unattended garden hoses. We put air in our tires at the local gas station, and ate junk food all day.

The left is going off the rails

A Patriot's Opinion

By Jim Snyder

The liberal left in this country never fails to surprise us with their latest idea as to how they think we should live our lives. The latest excursion into the liberal abyss comes from MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry. On her show a few weeks ago she said the following: “We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we've always had a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities."

Local, Community newspapers are not dead

By Toni Walker

Everywhere you turn, it seems we are inundated with media. From our televisions and computers, to our smartphones and even our radios, there is some form of news that can be readily accessible. Then, you have the local, community newspaper. Many might say that newspapers are dead or dying. But I beg to differ, and so would others.

It's time to set the record straight

By Jim Snyder

A Patriot's Opinion

I have been writing this column for nearly 18 months now. And in that time I have received hundreds of emails, phone calls, text messages, and face to face compliments on the topics discussed here. But every now and then I get someone who thinks I am some kind of hater, or that I am bad mouthing their favorite politician or party. Well, it’s time to set the record straight, so here goes.

You Is...

From My Perspective

By Toni Walker

As I was preparing my clothes for work one day, I noticed something rather peculiar about my slacks. The fabric inside the pants that lined the pockets was imprinted with various phrases, such as “You are valued,” and others. This got me to thinking about how important words of encouragement are, especially to women and young girls in a society that stresses so many other things.

Young children, especially girls today, are hit from all directions about their weight, their looks, or having the right looks or clothes. Please, can someone please explain to me why a seven year old would ever think they are fat? They think this because of all the things that are thrown at them by society. How much of a difference would it make for that seven year old if, every time she put on her jeans, she saw words of encouragement like ”You are special,” or “You have value”?

Unplugged

From My Perspective

By Toni Walker

Editor

news@steelcountrybee.com

I have been watching a phenomena over the last couple of years that has really started bothering me. That wonder involves our children and electronics.

Ok, before anyone stops reading this article before they really start, let me say this: I am not calling for a boycott of electronic devices, and condemning parents who allow their children the most up-to-date device. Remember, this is my perspective, and treat it as such. Besides, there might even be a little humor snuck in as well.

This Supreme Court battle is important

A Patriot's Opinion

By Jim Snyder

Ever since the death of Supreme court Justice Antonin Scalia the fight to replace him on the high court has become a political football. The president has said he will nominate someone to replace the Scalia vacancy, and the senate has vowed to block any nomination the president makes until after the upcoming presidential election. So why is this so important? The Supreme Court was designed and constructed to interpret the constitution for what it says not to legislate from the bench. But that is exactly what president Obama has done with his last two Supreme Court nominees. Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan were put on the court to basically do whatever Mr. Obama wishes. That is not the way the system is supposed to work.

On Spring Break, Indians, and rain

By: Toni Walker

Editor of The Steel Country Bee

This last week has been an interesting one, to say the least. On what has been my children’s spring break from school, I have been down one child, almost floated away, seen one of the strongest women I know be reduced to a hospital bed, and seen multiple communities rally around an area team vying for a championship. Wow! Talk about the whole gambit of emotions. Let me elaborate.
