The Buzz: Reflecting on the fall season

By Marlene Bohr
It was exactly a year ago that the fall season was in full swing and we had just finished with Halloween and preparations were underway for the Thanksgiving season.
This year sure had cities going all out with scarecrows and I hope a lot of you took time to browse around and see the different ones in Hughes Springs and Daingerfield. I am always amazed at the ladies of the Red Radiance Garden Club in Hughes Springs that come up with such great fashion scarecrows. Such a variety those ladies have and very ingenious ways of making them all different. This year they added bright, orange wreaths to their handicrafts.
Paint the Town Pink in conjunction with Sally’s Hope took off with scarecrow decorations all over, included in fall items such as pumpkins, bales of hay and so on. It was really fun to see the downtown area of Daingerfield dressed up with pink bows. Many businesses went all out to make it a really special occasion.

Letter to the Editor

Resident thinks change is long overdue

Dear Editor;
I grew up in East Texas and was an average kid. I had a girlfriend, had fairly good grades in school and could have gone to college, but I chose to serve my country and defend freedom. I served 12 years in the US Marine Corps, including 23 months in Southeast Asia (Viet-Nam) and was honorably discharged in 1972.I am now a senior citizen residing in Daingerfield.
I still believe in the oath I took when I swore allegiance to this great nation and its flag. I believe this qualifies me to speak my mind.
I am not a Democrat, Republican, Conservative or a Liberal.
I am an American realist.
I have opinions that support all sides and opinions against all sides. I am very opinionated and vocal.
My days of walking on “pins and needles” are over; the days of worrying about feelings have ended.
It’s time to step on some toes and take our country back.
