Wildflower Trails draws community together

By: Toni Walker

Mother Nature didn’t stop the 2015 Wildflower Trails from going on as planned last year. This year, she did not even try. Organizers could not have asked for better weather for the Forty-Sixth Annual Wildflower Trails Festival.

Had organizers been able to order the weather for the weekend, it is hard to believe they would have ordered anything other than the weather that was present on this last full weekend in April. Early, high clouds gave way to bright sunshine by parade time, and with a slight wind blowing through Spring Park, festival goers found reasons to stay most of the day.

The parade was led by Police Chief Randy Kennedy, who was joined by Reba Simpson, who is Texas longest-running mayor. The American Legion and Color Guard followed the Chief, and then came the Mighty Mustang Marching band.

Scouts, parents, and family, and friends gathered at the pavilion at Daingerfield State Park to mark the end of their year with the promotion ceremonies known as “Crossover.” Boys in each den were awarded their den patches, signifying they completed all requirements for that level of scouting. Each scout was also awarded any other pins, patches, and awards that they had earned throughout the year.
