Daingerfield lifters earn district titles

DAINGERFIELD -- Daingerfield High School played host to the district powerlifting meet on Feb. 8. Teams from Hughes Springs, New Boston, Pewitt, and DeKalb traveled to Daingerfield, with all but Pewitt bringing a boys and girls squad.

Daingerfield’s girls finished in first place as a team, led by six first place finishers. The girls set 37 personal bests and 13 school records in the meet.

Daingerfield defeats Hooks, moves into tie for third in district

HOOKS – The Daingerfield Lady Tigers traveled to Hooks on Jan 22 and came away with the win. The win also pulled the team into a tie for third in District 14- 3A.

Daingerfield jumped all over the host Hornets, taking a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers then added 19 in the second to go into halftime with a 35-4 lead. Although the team was shutout in the third, the defense held strong, only allowing three points in the frame. Daingerfield tacked on 11 more in the final frame while allowing 10 for the final margin, 46-16.

Daingerfield power lifters break school records

DAINGERFIELD – The Daingerfield Tigers and Lady Tigers hosted the first power lifting meet of the season on Jan. 25. Daingerfield’s boys broke four school records, while the girls’ team set or broke 13 school records.

In the boys division, Ishmael Allen set a school record by deadlifting 445 pounds in his weight class, while Elijah Allen set a school record in the deadlift with a 470 pound lift. Simeon Spearmon set school records in the bench press (250 pounds) and the deadlift (435 pounds), as well. Nine Tigers competed and brought home four first place, three second place, one third, and one fifth place finish.

Lady Tigers outlast snow to defeat New Boston

DAINFGERFIELD – The Daingerfield Lady Tigers outlasted New Boston on Jan. 18, 56-49, two days after the game was originally scheduled. The game was rescheduled twice due to snow and ice before the Lady Lions were finally able to visit Jesse Hanson gymnasium. The Lady Tigers took a one-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring the visiting team in all but the third quarter. Daingerfield had a 25-18 lead at halftime, and despite being outscored in that quarter, 19-17, hung on for the key 14-3A matchup.

Junior High Lady Tigers place third in Chapel Hill

The Daingerfield Junior High Lady Tigers eighth grade team competed in a basketball tournament on Saturday, Jan. 20. The girls lost their first game, 33-11 to host Chapel Hill and won their second against Spring Hill, 30-25, to finish in third place. Members of the team are Ashlyn Bruce, Za’mya Wilbarger, Genesis Allen, Journei Ferguson, Saana Fields, Sydney Key, Haley Lewis, and Breanna Williams. The team is coached by Jana McGoldrick.

Lady Tigers fall to Pewitt in district matchup

The Lady Tigers traveled to Pewitt High School on Jan. 12 for a battle with 14-3A opponent Pewitt Brahmas. The Lady Brahmas held on to defeat the visiting Tigers, 30-38.

Daingerfield fell behind after one quarter of play, 19-7, before outscoring the host team 12-7 in the second frame. This gave the Lady Brahmas a 26-19 halftime lead. The Lady Tigers were able to keep the contest close by closing the gap to two in the third before Pewitt put the game away in the fourth quarter.

Lady Tigers fall to Redwater, 54-25

DAINGERFIELD – The Daingerfield Lady Tigers welcomed the Redwater Lady Dragons to Jesse Hanson Gymnasium on Jan. 9 as they looked to continue improving in District 14-3A action. The Lady Tigers were unable to continue their hot streak from the break, falling to Redwater, 24-25.

Redwater jumped out to 10 point lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-5. By halftime, the Lady Tigers found themselves down 28-11. Daingerfield was outscored 26-14 in the second half on their way to a final score of 54-25.

Lady Tigers finish 2-2 in Fidelity Classic

HALLSVILLE – The Daingerfield Lady Tigers went 2-2 in the Fidelity Holiday Classic Girl’s Basketball Tournament at Hallsville on Dec. 28-29. In the teams’ final two tournament games on Dec. 29, Daingerfield defeated Pittsburg and lost to the Center Lady Roughnecks.

In the win over the Pittsburg Lady Pirates, Daingerfield fell behind early, losing by one at halftime, 21-20. Daingerfield outscored the Lady Pirates by one in the third period, but put the game away with a 22 point effort in the fourth period. The Lady Tigers’ effort gave them a 50-30 win and atoned for a three-point loss to Pittsburg earlier in the season.

Lady Tigers end break with win over Hughes Springs

DAINGERFIELD – The Daingerfield Lady Tigers basketball team finished off a busy Christmas break with a win over 14-3A opponent and cross town rival Hughes Springs on Jan. 5. The games were played at Jesse Hanson Gymnasium in Daingerfield.

In the junior varsity game, the Lady Tigers fell just short as the Lady Mustangs prevailed, 26-20. Several Lady Tigers contributed in the game, including Tyler Hayden, who netted eight points for the Daingerfield to go with three rebounds and six steals. Also contributing for the Lady Tigers were KyasiaWilliams ( four points, eight rebounds, two steals) and Tori Bennet (three points, four rebounds, one steal). Demontisia Hendrix and Jamie Nix each scored two points in the effort.
