Zachary J. Asbury

Air Force Airman Zachary J. Asbury graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.
 
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Smith goes to State

Hayden Smith, a senior at Hughes Springs High School, qualified for the State Tennis Tournament held at Texas A&M University in College Station on April 28 and 29 for the second straight year.

Hughes Springs’ golfers participated at State competition

Hughes Springs’ golf team finished 11th place in State competition in Austin with a team score of 426-435=861.
 
Logan Wilson placed the highest of the group with 29th with a two-day total 92-101+193. Kendal Sands scored 107-105=212; Shelby Golden scored 110- 110=220; Ryan Lindsey scored 126-119=245; and Jade Hill scored 117-129=246.

Hughes Springs students capture wins at art show

This past week several of the Hughes Springs art students participated in the Linden Wildflower Trails Art Show. Several of the students received awards. 
 
Amelia Smoak received first place for her dragon mask sculpture. Elizabeth Johnson took second place for her pen and ink.
 
First place winners were Morgan Pilgrim with photography, Zoe Lanier for oil pastel, and Brady McEntire for colored pencil. Brandy also placed third with pen and ink.

Fallen officers honored at Memorial Service

On May 15, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) honored the state troopers, agents and Texas Rangers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. State Sen. Brian Birdwell was the keynote speaker for the service, which is one of many ceremonies scheduled across the United States to honor fallen law enforcement officers during National Police Week.
