New superintendent takes reins at Hughes Spring ISD

For the first time in 34 years, Hughes Springs ISD will start school in August
without Rick Ogden serving in some official capacity. The district has hired Sarah
Dildine to replace Mr. Ogden in the role of Superintendent of Schools.

First annual Lupus Walk to be held July 25

Many diseases have symptoms or indicators that make the disease, or anyone who suffers from it, easily recognizable. There are some, however, that are consider “invisible diseases,” such as rheumatoid arthritis, depression, and anxiety. Another “invisible disease” is Lupus. One local woman is on a mission to raise awareness and help make this “unknown” disease, “known”. Park ranger brings wildlife to summer library program

Over the course of the last several weeks, children who have attended the summer library program hosted
by the FRIENDS of the Daingerfield Public Library have seen snakes, learned about percussion instruments,

Cancer survivor finds purpose in plants

In every community, there is that one person with the perfect yard, the one that people will
drive by just to see. In one area neighborhood, that yard belongs to Bill and Marla Gaines.
Many retired individuals take to gardening in order to stay active and prevent themselves from
becoming sedentary and possibly depressed. Mr. Gaines, a cancer survivor, considers his

Hughes Springs accepts first group of scholars for the College Academy

Academy. Through collaboration with Northeast Texas Community College and community partners,

Local Community Theatre prepares for first performances

It is said that “All the world is a stage.” By the end of this month, there will be a new stage for area thespians to
show off their talents.
