Illegal dumpers are sought by authorities

On June 6, the Morris County Sheriff’s office received a report of illegal dumping of used automobile tires onto private property, according to Sheriff Jack Martin.
 
“The suspect or suspects dumped tires in multiple locations within a few days,” Sheriff Martin said. “The combined weight of the illegally dumped tires make this a felony offense.”

Cafeteria rates change for next school year

An increase in cafeteria rates was approved by the Hughes Springs Independent School Board at its June 9 meeting. The cost for breakfast will be $2 and the cost for lunch will be $2.75. The adult lunches will remain the same at $3.25. 
 
Superintendent Rick Ogden said food prices are skyrocketing.

Wade Bowen to play at Music City Texas Theater

In the 14 years since Waco native Wade Bowen launched his career he’s risen to the top of the Texas music and Red Dirt circuit. 
 
To date, he has had a total of 11 Number 1’s and 15 Top 5 Singles on the Texas Music Chart. His current single, “Love in the First Degree”, a duet with Brandy Clark, is at Number 1.

Commissioners bar pets, except service animals, from courthouse

Pet owners will no longer be able to visit the courthouse with a pet in tow, unless the animal is a certified service animal. Morris County Commissioners passed the agenda item at their June 9 meeting. 
 
“This has been on our list for awhile,” Judge Lynda Munkres said. “Before anything happens, we thought we should have a policy. This bars any animals in the courthouse unless it is a service animal.”
