Wine Festival celebration will be held Sept. 20

Avinger Wine Festival promises to offer a variety of participating wineries and vendors for a celebration of wine,  food, art and music. The event will be held Sept. 20 at 460 S. Main St., Highway 49, in Avinger from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Hughes Springs school district sets tax rate; adopts budget

Residents in the Hughes Springs Independent School District area will not see an increase in school taxes for another year. The board of trustees met in a special called meeting Aug. 28 to set the tax rate and adopt the budget.

Pancake Supper 
The Daingerfield Lions Club will serve a pancake supper at South Elementary cafeteria before the Daingerfield Tiger football game on Sept.19. Serving will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and takeouts will be available. The event was rescheduled from Aug. 29. Tickets are available at the door.

Lady Mustangs stomp over Lady Wildkats

Volleyball started things off on a busy Friday in Hughes Springs with a convincing straight sets victory over the
Waskom Lady Wildkats, 25-15, 25-15, and 25-15. Hughes Springs was once again led by seniors Breanne Gunn, Destiny Gonzales, and also Chloe Hicks.

Jimmy and Ashley Womack receive degrees from Texas A&M

It was a special summer 2014 commencement at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where husband and wife, Jimmy and Ashley Womack, both received degrees. Jimmy earned his master’s of science degree in applied criminology and Ashley earned a doctorate in counselor education.
